Planted in October 2022, this large-scale roof garden celebrates biodiversity to the max, with profuse wildlife-friendly plant species for all seasons. Designed for a private investment bank, the 160sqm roof garden is part of 3 terraces where architectural trees, shrubs & grasses grow.
Utilising meadow perennials, we’ve paired ornamental grasses to create an urban grassland, situated right behind the Bank of England in the city, with arresting city views above the centre of London, with vistas of the Shard and St Paul’s Cathedral.
This modern roof garden design features lush biodiverse planting in 50 custom planters of increasing sizes to grow dense planting of contrasting scale. Experts in bespoke rooftop planters, for this unique project we created shallow troughs for grasses, medium troughs for shrubs and squares for trees.
Selected tree species include Acer griseum, Amelanchier, Betula, Broussonetia, Cornus, Halesia, Magnolia, Osmanthus, Sorbus & Syringa, with Anemanthele grasses (Gossamer), interlaced with perennials such as Astrantia, Centaurea, Geum, Scabiosa, Teucrium & Veronica. The star of the summer scene is Lythrum salicaria, the native purple Loosestrife, with stunning mauve blooms.
