The new retail branch of Bank of China in Flushing represents the Bank’s major shift towards
the increasingly affluent Chinese and Asian community in Queens, New York City. Located
in a mixed-use development along a major intersection, it will serve a large clientele. Pei
Partnership Architects was entrusted with presenting a new face for the Bank, while at the
same time adhering to the timeless qualities that distinguish Pei Partnership Architects’
design for their Headquarters Building in Beijing.
Pei Partnership Architects worked closely with the Bank, contractors, consultants, and
craftsmen throughout the process of design and construction. A unifying palette of classic
Roman Travertine walls, Pietra Serena floors, Anigre wood and stainless steel finishes
was used to create an elegant and welcoming environment for every customer. Beyond, a
high-performance, low-emissivity glass envelope, whose transparency ensures continuous
connection between interior and exterior.
The 15,000-square foot space is divided into ground and lower levels. The ground floor
serves general public services: an ATM vestibule, a lobby with tellers, account desks, and
private VIP rooms. The public area of lower level contains a vault and its reception and
viewing rooms. Other facilities include office areas, support services, a break room, storage,
and a training area.
