UWA pavillion competition Entry
PavillionIt is not only sports stadium which is left as a white elephant. Distructing pavillion after event costs as much as constructing it. Choice of material and the design should be considered comprehensively including from manufacturing proecss to distructing process.
Sustainability - materialityAfter atomic bombing in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, when all the living things disappeared, bamboo was the first to revive on the ground. Bamboo emits 35% more oxygen than other trees, and purifies 1.2 billion tons of carbon dioxide per acre. Bamboo is the last key for saving the endangered earth from environmental pollution. Light weight and elasticity are the most dominant characteristics of bamboo. And, its affordability and easy manufacturing process enables bamboo to be used in a wide range of product design.
Design actualizationThis project propose light weight and affordable installation using bamboo umbrella as a single component. What is added and altered in existing bamboo umbrella is another side of umbrella on the opposite side, and inside supporting ribs are fixed at the bamboo pole and outside one is free to move. Additionally, bended bamboo ribs are attached between both side of umbrella. This additional ribs allows each umbrella to be assembled like gear. In order to keep the pavillion stable, elastic rubber rope or steel spring is introduced at the both side of tip of bambll pole
