The Bamboo Pavilion Tea House, located in Liyao Village of Qixian Township, Henan Province of China, draws its name from the famed “Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove.” This pavilion symbolizes the essence of Chinese culture and offers visitors an experience inspired by the wisdom of “reclusion” through its immersive spatial elements: a descending pathway, long corridors, and open sky views. Looking up at the lofty, interwoven bamboo structures forming the ceiling, one feels a profound sense of reverence for the meticulous craftsmanship and the harmony embedded in its form.
The traditional tiles, or “living tiles,” represent a dynamic art form. They are set on hidden metal sheets that create subtle sounds as the wind moves through, transforming the roof into an instrument of nature. Positioned within a valley, the project spans 24,000 square meters and stretches 240 meters in length. It encompasses a main entrance plaza, a small conference room, a mountaintop tea room, and a scenic corridor.
Standing at 19.8 meters, the Bamboo Pavilion gracefully harmonizes with its narrow, towering site, engaging in a visual “dialogue” with the mountains on either side. This pavilion is a representative structure of traditional design and nature, resonating with the quiet power of bamboo and evoking a timeless sense of respect for its surrounding cultural heritage and natural beauty.
