This three storey home on Sydney's northern beaches is a substantial renovation to an old 1920's house which has stunning harbour views. Taking its cue from the organic forms of the surrounding angophoras and boats, the house design responds to its context with soft curves and clean lines, reminiscent of seaside P&O houses in the area. The framed views and landscape incorporated on each level meld contemporary and organic, city and sea.
Generous entertaining areas, an acoustically separated music studio, guest suite for frequent visitors and different living and working zones for intergenerational living were key components of the brief which were accommodated in the design. Materials chosen match the clients requirements for long lasting, robust surfaces and textures. The rendered exterior, aluminium battens and stone cladding are robust, long-lasting responses to the corrosive coastal air. The detailing is kept simple to minimise maintenance and create a reference to the grand old P&O homes in the area which the clients loved.
