The new Balanced Athlete Fitness Studio located on Connecticut Ave. in Washington D.C. is an expansion offering for The Rock Creek Sports Club located in Silver Springs, MD. S3 Design, in conjunction with Richard Newlon (Architect of Record), developed the studio model to deliver a high-quality class offering in an under-served part of the D.C. area.
The design created 3 studios - Cycling, Balanced Athlete, and a multi-purpose studio. In addition to the studios, there is a small childcare area that could be converted to a smaller studio if need be and a reception area. Restrooms and
changing rooms are included in the model. The design objective was to make the space feel larger than it is while showing off the different studios so patrons can see and experience the different class offerings in progress. S3 incorporated two main storage/seating structures to create a pre-function area for the studios that also served as storage and buffers for the two studios. Floor finishes were used to draw connections across the larger space and make the entire studio feel as though it was one, with a lounge area in the middle.
