A well designed block is defined by its capacity to integrate itselfinto the city’s urban structure, absorb the historical and culturalfeatures of the town and result into an improved urban model. In this case the site is characterized by multiple layers of urbanand historical conditions, presenting tremendous potential fordevelopment. Situated at the corner of an important intersection,it has the opportunity to not only reactivate itself but alsoserve to and take from its surroundings. The vision for the Badel Site is to create an active and activatingarea, closely interacting with its surrounding urban spaces. Wesee the site as a communal hub, located at the intersection ofbusy streets and public spaces. That’s said the role these buildingshave to play is more public than private. Architecture becomeshere important in introducing particular programs whichwill define different behaviors. We wanted to establish a culturalstretch and extend the urban activities of the area within theblock as well as introduce new program features and activities.By doing this the new development will project back to the cityand establish a clear dialogue with its host. Our goal is to produce a new model, which takes the elementsof the traditional architecture of the city of Zagreb like : thescale, sense of communal space, volumetric composition, definedsloped roofs, open courtyards and public piazzas, and createan improved model by combining them with new technologies, green features, diverse program and collective spaces.
