This is a small shop of 30sq.m. located in a typical Athenian residential complex of the 70s. The main principle is to respect the envelope in which the shop is inscribed. Any interference should happen within the structural elements of the building so that the individual property does not dominate over the general whole.
The shop has a narrow façade and big depth. The façade is the critical surface of interaction and expression. It is fully made of glass with metal frames, adjoined by a system of sliding security railing in front. It is a typical combination of small shops of the period.
The existing façade is preserved and serves as a compositional instrument. The upper part is extruded to the full depth of the space and works as a three dimensional grid in which the mechanical systems run. The lower part is partly transformed into a sash window in order to create a direct relationship with the exterior.
The preparation area is open and stands as the ontological epicenter of the shop. At the back of the space a composition of panels and doors is hung by the metal structure. It serves as a divider of the lavatory and the kitchen from the main area and at the same time it is a projection of a different perspective that connects the present with the historical past of this particular Athenian neighborhood.
