Nowadays, pre-kindergarten school is necessary for working parents due to rapid child’s development which leads to future self-attitude and morality. Therefore, Suan Dusit University has fully comprehended about the importance of building up pre-kindergarten school project called “Baan Nu Noi” to improve on living quality and to satisfy the needs of current society.

“Baan Nu Noi” is appropriate for the child’s age between 2-5 years. The main objective is to build aesthetics and imagination for the children starting from basic positive mind set through these 3 factors:

1. Age developmental stimulation
2. Suitable environment
3. Good place

The design proposition is how can we build the place where it can achieve these 3 factors and make it feels like home. So, we decided to locate the building in a peaceful corner, surrounded by trees and flowers which can be seen from inside the building, with natural lights passing through certain spaces.

The 3-storey building form is a combination of rectangular and 2 conical shapes. The curved edge on the third floor is finished with green composite to imitate the shape of the “Big Tree” to represent the children that grow up with strength and stability. Some parts of exterior material are finished with artificial wood plank due to harmonious natural surrounding and durability. The building itself consists of curved lines to emphasize gentleness, comfort and most importantly, the safety of children.

For the interior design, the schematic color used consists of brown, beige, light blue and green to provide a natural touch feeling that helps to calm the children. The void of the staircase is protected with woven ropes for safety purposes, with 2 levels of handrails which are suitable for both children and adults.
The roof top floor is designed to be an open playground with fabric tension membrane applied to the shading device, which the latter is designed to be harmonious with the surrounding.

The purpose of Suan Dusit University and us is not only to create “Baan Nu Noi” as a pre-kindergarten school, but to be a role model to enhance on better sustainable society through better learning environment which leads to stronger social foundation in Thailand.
