Axalta Coating Systems, formerly DuPont Performance Coatings, was acquired by the Carlyle Group in February of 2013. In order to create its own brand and identity the company was renamed and its Global Headquarters was relocated to Center City Philadelphia’s Two Commerce Square, while its North American Headquarters was relocated to Glenn Mills, PA. D2 took on the challenge of designing both headquarters simultaneously on rapid timelines. The spaces incorporate neutral finishes and architectural details which serve as a canvas for the bold rebranding.
Since the offices were traditionally planned, with glass-front offices around the perimeter, D2 incorporated pops of Axalta’s “Hot Hues” strategically placed in public spaces, pantries, and collaborative zones. This brought product display into the space in a playful way to compliment the sophisticated canvas and conservative layout. In order to create complimentary, but not identical spaces, the Global Headquarters features warm oranges, yellows, gold, and bronze while the North American Headquarters features cool blues, greens, and purples. Together the warm and cool hues complete the color spectrum, connecting both offices and building a cohesive brand.
