Avedøre stationsby - Cityscape of the town North and South
STATUS
Concept
This project has been initiated as a result of a request from the housing association KAB, they requested a study of how Hvidovre Municipality's school closure in Avedøre Stationsby affected the housing in the area.
Avedøre Stationsby is a prime example of the rational, functionalist social housing built between 1972 and 1982. Through the preliminary analysis revealed that the total planned town, designed as a closed modern village with its own functions, is important to respect and preserve by modifying the area. It emphasized, however, that Avedøre Stationsby is characterized by problems that can be described as ghettos and slums, like much else of contemporary functionalist building. In the late 90s the area gained neighborhood regeneration, with a particular focus on social conditions.
The urban regeneration had an impact on the district's demographics, which had shown that the composition of residents consists of much people on welfare support, many ethnicities, many children and a high emigration rate. Avedøre Stationsby is also facing problems with bad reputation, homes fall clause and functional out stream in the village center as a result of school and institutional closings. The challenge is to update the historical village dream as the basis for the project. What can be done under the new conditions do Avedøre Stationsby to a good and attractive place for children and families?
To investigate and solve this problem, we decided to examine the architectural challenges and families' preferences for Avedøre Stationsby, in an analysis. The analysis opens in 7 concrete solutions that could make Avedøre Stationsby more attractive for families with children. On the basis of the solutions is a revised version of Hvidovre Municipal Strategy 2011 and the Municipal 2009, and a local plan for a selection of railroad town.
The strategy of the municipality will focus on the cultural heritage in Hvidovre, with Avedøre Stationsby and specifically change the framework for the railway town, so that through the mix of functions and other initiatives can create more life and security in the town. The local plan dealing specifically with the institutional- service district in the center of Avedøre Stationsby, to allow for a shopping street that can create more life and better feeling of security in the cityscape. In addition, the aim is to attract citizens from the rest of Hvidovre, so that a story is intiated about the place, to enhance its image. In the project we can conclude that Avedøre Stationsby can be made more attractive for families with children to move if the solutions are implemented properly.
