Ave Maria Studio-House
The project remodeling of a XXth century house in the historic center of Coyoacan, the oldest neighborhood in Mexico City, called “la Casa de la Luz”. bgp arquitectura transformed the existing construction as well as the interiors and designed most of the furniture. The house is located in the center of the catalogued area of Coyoacan, and cannot be touched on the exterior, but bgp arquitectura removed several walls towards the patio and increased the amount of light in the house, these combine with the white color of all walls and a delicate selection of luminaries generate special interior spaces.
The new house expanded the original in a new heavily glazed wing, library and studio around the patio, both covered with steel bookcases which contain an extensive bibliographic collection.
A new bright orange spiral stair gives access to the roof transformed in a terrace-barbecue overlooking the heavily wooded context. In the living room there was a hole in the wall to take advantage of a terrace with a glass floor and a spectacular view of the colonial urban context of Barrio Santa Catarina.
