A modest, dilapidated 1950s beach house was converted into an open, light filled 4 bedroom home in what started out as a student commission. Our intent was to provide our trusting clients with a beautiful, flexible, functional house that was within the limits of their budget and that by some measure would enrich their lives and their experience of their surroundings. We also saw it as an opportunity to explore what we believe to be the essence of architecture – the manipulation and articulation of light, space and material/ colour/ texture. This is a house dedicated to the simple pleasures of open plan, open air living. It’s a theme that runs right through from the front deck to the rear courtyard. Windows, louvres, sliding doors, glass folding doors – all positioned to catch the sun, the views and the sea breezes.Extract from Houses Magazine 2000
