This project is a renovation of an open loft space in the DUMBO neighborhood of Brooklyn for a thriving media company with offices on both US coasts. The budget-conscious office design centers around an open gathering space, or “hub” that can be used for meetings of various sizes, company gatherings, dining, film and television screenings, or just quiet contemplation. Design ideas called for the angled walls of the hub to be of opposing textures and opacities for visual interest, varying levels of privacy, and to allow light to enter into the center of the floorplate. Dividing panels were fabricated to our custom computer-generated patterns using water-jet cutting technology on expanded metal mesh material. The metal panels dialogue with the existing permanent electrical service feeder lines that run overhead through the center of the space. Surrounding the hub, and nearest to natural daylight, are open staff workstations and a conference areas that allow for current and future staff.
