The main intention and goal of the current study was the greatest possible promotion, recognition and familiarisation of the new AUTh logo. The creation of a new interactive reference point of shifting visual experience that reproduces and expresses the fervent energy of a dynamic space of intellectual activity, such as the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
“The elements that compose the new logo evolve and create orthonormal geometrical compositions that visualise concepts such as constant movement – evolution, diversity, stability, collectivity…”. The above saying belongs to the creators of the new logo, and equally founds the overarching concepts that determine its architectural composition and intentionality at an operational and conceptual level.
The existing structural framework of the construction is maintained; it is an entirely metal construction, consisting of a rectangular roof and a dome. A similar fine metal construction coated with panels of perforated sheet is placed on the outside. A new architectural appearance emerges that embraces the existing structure, while the logo of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and all the geometrical elements of the new visual identity are depicted on it in an intelligible way. The perimeter metal construction can execute a back-and-forth mechanical movement in relation to the vertical axis, through a special device studied and designed for the specific purpose, subject to all restrictions and respecting at the same time all the safety rules for the specific use.
Inside the pavilion, a geometrical, lopsided composition of changing dimensions from oak wood is placed in a sculptural manner, satisfying the needs for display, sale and storage, as well as for office use of the new pavilion.
The management of the natural light through perforated panels, in combination with the deliberate handling of artificial light, with the use of targeted selections of luminaires (gradation of beam and intensity of light) and automation devices, aim at the theatrical display of products, but mostly at the showcase of the new architectural appearance that signifies AUTh’s new visual identity.
At sundown, the new pavilion turns into an “urban lighthouse”, triggering an exceptional visual experience, but also an unprecedented “first meeting” of the new AUTh logo with the student community of the university campus.
