This
site is located in Redfern, Sydney. It is one of the oldest industrial sites in
Australia and has been redeveloped to include modern tenancies as well as
housing the Sydney Headquarters of Channel 7 and the RTA.
Blueprint
Concepts was engaged to design some building signage for the façade of the
building referred to as the “Locomotive Workshop”. We worked alongside heritage
consultants to ensure that whatever was proposed would fit in line with the
heritage nature of the site. There was some existing building signage already
on the building so we needed to ensure our new signage design was in line with
this.
We
went through a number of different designs before finalising a concept that the
client was happy with. Blueprint Concepts then put some prototypes into
production. The signage was specified as black stainless steel letters with LED
halo illumination and a mesh backing plate to match the existing signage.
Once
the signage designs were agreed on between the client and the consultants we
then engaged engineers to look at the fixing method. The façade of the building
is a heritage item so the installation would only be permitted if very little
impact was made to the brickwork. Therefore we could only drill through the
limestone mortar when attaching the large brackets which would eventually
support the sign.
See
the day and night time photos of this awesome looking signage.
The
installation of the building signage was done at night time to reduce the impact
on the tenants. All parties have been very happy with the signage which is now
installed. It looks as though the signage was installed at the same time as the
existing signage which means we have achieved the ultimate goal for this
client. We are currently discussing another projecy with Australian Technology Park.
