The Aurelia residence is a secondary home, designed to be a Mediterranean-inspired retreat with a luxury resort atmosphere, for a young family. The design focused on an elegant, modern kitchen as the heart of a year-round retreat. A dramatic 12'-x12' glass wall in the kitchen area serves as a stunning backdrop to the main living space. This expansive window balances the tall ceilings in the living and kitchen areas, creating a powerful dormer moment that greets guests upon arrival. The glass wall not only frames breathtaking views of the lake, but also floods the interior with natural light, enhancing the sense of connection between the indoors and the surrounding landscape. PKA prioritized airy, light-filled spaces with warm, muted tones and refined natural materials, supporting both daily living and large-scale entertaining. Decorative plaster was used throughout all the main living spaces, featuring a unique transition from stone to plaster. This detail adds depth and character to the interiors, creating a tactile and visually engaging environment that distinguishes the retreat. By eliminating a basement and upper level, the design achieved distinctive interior volumes and a more expansive spatial experience, while vaulted ceilings and large windows brought in natural light and framed lake views. The project balances openness with intimacy, layering materials like decorative plaster to create comfort and a sense of permanence.
