Atrium House is a celebration of heritage and traditions. To design the residential development, via. reinterpreted the traditional Chinese “courtyard house” typology for modern day living. A series of brick-clad pavilions was created by via. for the development, surrounded by a peaceful central pool that enables inward-looking views. The pavilions house a variety of functions and activities for its residents – a tea house, a bath house, an active house, a cooking studio, a banquet hall, a lounge and a library. A range of hues are infused into the design of these pavilions, where the colors represent the spectrum of lights seen in different times of the day. Greenery also becomes an integral element in the scheme. Planted with an abundance of trees and plants, residents can enjoy luscious green views from their apartments above. The resulting composition fuses elements of the landscape, architecture and interior design into a singular living unit.
The same vernacular sensitivity is injected into the design of the sales suite. The entrance of the suite is marked by a timber framework against a composition of Chinese bricks, creating a powerful first impression. Custom-made cast concrete panels created with bamboo formwork is used to echo the materials in the residential development. A pathway leads to an indoor garden, featuring slatted timber grilles and intricate brickwork. An additional theater space showcases two artworks in a space highlighted by symmetry and harmony.
