This single-family house is located on a busy street in an urban infill setting. The 4-bedroom house sits between two new, large neo-traditional houses. In stark contrast to the neighboring houses perched on the hill, this modern house is carved into the site to minimize its scale and enhance its privacy. To the rear of the site (south) the contiguous living spaces open to a private backyard with views of the city skyline beyond. The composition and articulation of the architecture is modern in form and line, but is warm and textured in its materials. The palette consists of cedar, stone, zinc, and unpainted stucco. Portions of the steel structure are expressed where, along with the large expanses of glass, they contrast with the textured and earthy qualities of the stone, wood, and stucco.
