Atelier New York, the iconic cutting-edge menswear boutique in Manhattan, has long been cooped up in a tenth-floor gallery space in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood. In 2016, Atelier New York has moved to a new storefront location in Greenwich Village at 20 West 8th St. The new store has been renovated from an old sports shoe store into a Minimalist, Avant-garde, Industrial multi-functional fashion hub in Manhattan.
The new storefront design has respected its historical neighborhood by leaving the existing entrance facade intact, adapting a low-profile, exclusive entrance; inserted with a black entrance box from behind, the facade has become almost completely solid and opaque, only with a hint of transparency that stands itself out in the neighborhood.
The 19m long by 6m wide interior space is finished in exposed concrete wall and left with its original terrazzo floor, respectively with detachable metal shoe/bag display racks as well as removable metal and marble stands. It has also retained memories from the old store by adaptively reusing/refurbishing many of Atelier New York’s original furniture pieces, sculptures and the signature fur-lined dressing room.
The new Atelier New York Interior design is complementary to the store's collection from brands such as Demeulemeester, Yohji Yamamoto, GUIDI, A1923 and m.a.+;Upon its opening in Summer 2016, it has hosted a series of fashion events such as the StyleZeitgeist pop-up stores.
