ROW Studio based its design for a new system of cafeteria furniture and spaces on the archetypal checkered red and white tablecloth present in restaurants around the world. For its execution we departed from the Northumbria Tartan or Sheppard’s Plaid, one of the oldest and most basic, that trough the repetition of dual toned diagonal lines forms solid color squares alternated with bicolor diagonals in between.
A system of planks tilted to 45° that are joined together with straight angles serves as enclosure or space divisor trough the repetition of a simple union to create a complex structure.
A similar solution is used for the furniture giving continuity to the pattern on the different planes and mounted on a orthogonal structural systems that maintains the lightness of the pieces.
All the elements are manufactured with Wilson Art’s high pressure phenolic ply and mounted on Masisa’s 15mm MDF panels that for its resistances and cleanliness are ideal for a dinning space.
The system was presented at the Franz Mayer Museum in Mexico City for the Horizontes Masisa exhibition during the Abierto Mexicano de Diseño from October 23th – 27th 2013 along with projects by Ariel Rojo, Emiliano Godoy and Savvy Studio.
