For Kim, this project was a true labor of love. Having worked on the Ski Patrol at Aspen Highlands for nearly a decade, the opportunity to design the new patrol headquarters was very exciting. Knowing intimately the daily patrol routine, Kim was able to design a building that worked to the advantage of this busy group. The building was situated on the top of the mountain to be out of site as guests arrive at the top of the mountain, so as not to distract from the amazing views; but also in a place of easy access for the patrol to get in and out in a hurry with all the equipment needed for their work. Avalanche work being a big part of their job, the Snow Safety office was given a huge view of Highland Bowl to keep a ‘visual’ on patrollers and guests alike. The expansive deck, hanging out over Maroon Bowl was designed for the enjoyment of everyone to enjoy one of the best views in the Country. The Ski Company was also very interested in staying with their “Green” theme, so we added solar panels, designed in natural day lighting, composting toilets and used many recycled materials; from the steel structure to the insulation and flooring. This project has also been featured in Mountainhomestyle Magazine. http://www.kimraymondarchitects.com/projects/comm/highlandsphq.html
