The concept proposed is based on a fragmented and vertical definition of
the form, to be obtained through the variation and articulation of a
funny play of vaguely phytomorphic volumes alluding to the presence of
the cliff which laps against the site on one hand, more broadly
referring to the sustainability matter on the other hand. New huts are
conceived as an assemblage of a limited number of modules (sea plywood
panels) – different width, same depth and height – put side by side and
secured to a stainless steel HE wide-flange girder structure. Internally
gaps between modules could easily accommodate sundowner deck chairs and
other foldable furnitures, while externally could provide gas pipes,
downpipes or any other services, remarking at the same time the modules
appearance of the whole with nice shadowy incisions.
With each module presenting is own distinctive prismatic roof shape, a
wide range of different combinations is possible, depending on the
single elements adopted.
This deep carved roof configures itself as a succession of matt and
translucent sloping slabs in succession: a wavy landscape of canon
lumières, allowing the sun rays reflection and maximizing the
distribution of diffused light through the internal space; as a result
any other sun shade devices or facade openings will be unnecessary,
except for the wide double doorways facing the sea.and the lateral
external patio spaces, allowing plenty of natural light inside whilst
maintaining privacy for occupants. When all doors are opened – internal
retractable partition wall included – spatial fluidity is clearly
achieved.
The plan shows two separate longitudinal areas: the former, close to the
entrance, spacious and uncluttered; the latter, 60 cm deep, conceived
as a series of cubby holes/wall units, equipped with adjustable height
worktops, single burner gas stoves – and storage cupboards within an
organic, bold and sculptural overall layout.
