In the conceptual interior design project of Ashkabat Olympic Village Gymnasium that was carried out by Polimeks Construction as the contractor, vivid colors and local geometrical forms were preferred due to the country’s cultural codes and employer’s requests. Different concepts were applied and elaborated in tribune corridors, audience cafe, conference hall, VIP cafe and viewing terrace, which surround the elliptical athletic field placed in the center of the building. Dynamic diagonal lines were frequently used with vivid colors that reflect the sports concept, on ground, walls and ceilings. More subtle colors and textures were applied in VIP lodges with an aim to help the watchers’ focus in games on the field. A dominant red line emphasized the main entrance, with an inspiration from the running tracks. Dynamic colors and diagonal lines used in the main audience café’s floor were tamed with wooden parquet strips, while yellow color dominated the VIP café with façades facing outdoors. The entrances opening to the tribune corridor were correlated by associating each entrance as a roof unit together with the facing wall breaking the longitudinal perspective effect of the corridor into perceivable parts. The corridors also provide connections to the Bowling Hall and the Chess Club.
