Located in a rural area experiencing a decline in the number of medical care facilities, this bonesetter’s clinic aims to offset that trend and to serve as a local landmark to the surrounding community. Situated on a prefectural highway the unique shape of the building makes it easily recognizable. However, it complements the surrounding green forest and fields, so as not to be overly obtrusive.
The concept behind the structure of the building is to create space by stacking volumes. This space created between the volumes serves to guide patrons through the clinic. At the same time it affords them a sense of security and ease. The hope of the bonesetter is to create a place for community members to find comfort and relief in their daily life and in times of need.
