The project is a small two-story building on the site of an existing house.
It is located on the slope of the San Luis hill in the middle of the city of Santiago. The slope and the distant views are the reason why it was decided to arrange the small program as a two-level structure.
The first level of the program consists of a bedroom, with a bathroom that will have an intermittent and more private use. The second level is an open space designed to be used as a studio for an artist. But it is also a place of recreation for the inhabitants of the main house.
The second level has a balcony with views of the city and a large window facing towards the hill that frames the vegetation. In order to keep this view at an eye level, the floor level is left 90 centimeters lower than the exterior circulation. Taking advantage of the rear wall, furniture that contains a sink and a seat are created.
To allow a more fluid use between the two constructions and the exterior circulations, both levels were left open and with accesses in each one of them.
The construction consisted of a concrete retaining wall on the first level and over that a wooden structure, which continues the construction system of the original house. All clad in “coigüe” (local native wood) boards arranged diagonally.
