Artifact Coffee is a 2000 sf café located in the reclaimed boiler house of the historic Union Mill building in Baltimore’s Hampden-Woodberry neighborhood. The design accentuates the historic bones of the space, including original stone walls and timber decking, beams and trusses. The exposed concrete floor is stained except in the small lounge area where distressed hardwood flooring is used.
A variety of found and refurbished historic artifacts including lights, cabinets and wainscoting have been incorporated into the decor. In order to optimize the number of customers who can be served, the use of a large refurbished table for gathering in the main area and fold-down bars within the lounge area are utilized.
Outside the café, patrons enjoy one of the site's unique features, a large urban courtyard with an outdoor seating area.
