In the city of Tilburg the totally refurbished art-house theatre Cinecitta recently re-opened: “breathtakingly beautiful” it was labeled by the press. The movie-theatre consists of two monumental buildings connected by a gallery.
The new Cinecitta consists of one big movie-theatre which seats 176 and two smaller theatres with ca. 45 seats. Furthermore the complex consists of a stylish meetingroom with a fine balcony, a spacious multifunctional space which can accomodate about 80 to 100 guests, a restaurant with 60 seats which is called Ristobar, an attractive lounge and a patiogarden.
Sustainability was an important issue in the refurbishing and renewal of the building. Firstly already existing elements were kept as much as possible. The building is for the most part isolated anew. Retention walls were put in front of all the outside walls and the roof was fitted with Kingspan roofplates with an Rc value of 4m2K/W. The gallery on the southside of the monumental building creates a climate zone and so isolates the façade. The HR++ glazing of the gallery is coated with a solar protection film.
Besides making sure the energy consumption is kept to a minimum an energy concept was chosen that does not use any fossil fuel. The whole of the roofing on the southside is fitted with solar paneling. These panels generate 27.000 kWh yearly which is enough to operate the three movie-projectors ten hours a day the whole year round.
An energy-efficient Led-lighting solution is used througout. Induction hot plates are used for cooking. The attic is used as an installation area and houses four of the eight heating pumps. The heat produced by the three projectors is conducted directly to a heat recovery system.
