West Side Avenue Station
Parking Lot Markers
The ten parking lot markers prepared
for this station employed images
accumulated during a survey of the site, conducted at the beginning of this
project. This survey involved individuals from
businesses and organizations resident in
the area. Bridge Panels
Four visual elements installed
on the interior truss of the West Side
Avenue Bridge are viewed from
both sides. The imagery used for these
elements relate to the passage of
pedestrians within the tunnel relative to
their direction of travel.Catenary Pole Attachments
This part of my project entailed the creation of four catenary pole attachments, placed at the West Side Avenue Station along the tracks of the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail
Transit System. My attachments provided a somewhat symmetric visual frame
to the platform entrance, fanning out from either side of the arriving and departing tracks.
These four objects modeled from images of bird wings, silhouetting the wing forms
from aves of the New Jersey region. These forms provide a natural visual
reference for this location. The wings also allude to the lithe streamlined forms
of the transit vehicles themselves and the notion of speed of transport.
