– Space for Art – The large-scale paintings of the artist-client push the limits of their studio on the upper floor of the semi-detached house. The desire for more open space and abundant light defines the expansion of the 1990s residence.
Through a sensitive approach to the existing structure and an adaptation of the building alignments, a distinctive yet understated building volume emerges. The junction between old and new is emphasized by the raised roofline. The result is an open art studio on the upper floor and an extended living space with a covered seating area on the ground floor. A separate, secondary entrance to the upper-floor studio is accessible via a rear metal staircase, offering the artist yet another sense of freedom.
