This project focused on redesigning the School of
the Art Institute of Chicago located at 280 S. Columbus Dr., Chicago, Illinois.
The course focused on addressing the need for a main campus renovation. In this
design approach, iconography was taken into consideration. The school,
especially students, felt their school, as a physical main campus, did not
receive much recognition from the public’s perspective. The first initial
design approach focused on asking myself, “What is an art school?” To me, an
art school is a machine housing various excelling and artistic individuals. The
idea of a floating school fit the criteria for a school to gain more
recognition from the public’s perspective. The potential effects would welcome
the public through the school, engage interaction between the school and public
and be recognizable campus the School of the Art Institute of Chicago could
embrace as a prolific school.
