In 2009, the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation transformed and abandoned elevated freight railway line into an urban linear park. The design for the Drawing Center Art Gallery calls for a building adjacent to the Highline Park.
The façade of the building has two layers: an inner layer of glazing and an outer layer of climbing plant life which serves as a vertical extension of the park below.
