The Gloria Lee Environmental Learning Centre forms part of the establishment of a working
operation in permaculture and a long term view which encompasses a holistic and healthy approach to living in the Central Australian Desert. Its existence has arisen from limited resources and achieved reality through the vision and dedication of a number of people. Mrs. Olive Veverbrants, a local Arrente aboriginal woman and her family have created a way of "opening doors" for their people to gain access and opportunities to regional and appropriate ways of
building and living, as well as creating employment and training opportunities. The community has constructed a culturally appropriate, environmentally responsible living environment that was built by ATWork building trainees, and demonstrates responsible ways of building and living within their hot arid climate. The Gloria Lee Ngale Environmental Learning Centre is a place where aboriginal people can experience and share in the knowledge of appropriate technologies, building techniques and food producing practices through participation and hands on involvement, taking those
experiences and utilising them back in their own communities.
