The goal for the Conference Center is to be an asset for a breadth of corporate campus and community users. A hilly landscape with buildings at different levels adds challenge to making campus connections. Our solution is to depress the Conference Center into the hillside and connect to a courtyard event space shared with the main Campus Commons. Landscape walls, stairs, ramps and terraces knit this space to the central campus. Within the building assembly spaces open directly to an all-glass reception area and the exterior courtyard. To stabilize the largely underground structure a steel truss buttresses the walls as it frames entries to the assembly spaces. The main entry is crowned by a whimsical landscape sculpture that houses mechanical equipment and skylights.
