This project was designed as an addition to a small concrete block house that was built in the 40's. It sit between a historic neighborhood and a commercial and industrial neighborhood. The original structure was kept almost complete except the roof was removed and an 8 foot section of wall was cut out on the former front of the house to form the dining room. The off center peak of the house represents the zoning bulk plane that overlays the site. The juxtaposition of the vertical and horizontal line represents an integration of the historic houses to the east and the 50's motel style apartment building to the west. The plan of the house is the square foot print of the existing house with an identical square offset to make a center court yard porch which acts as the primary source of light coming into the house.
