Calpak’s new office space is 330 m² located in Piraeus, Greece, and it extends through a whole floor of a 1970’s building in the most central part of the city.
The composition is based on capturing the view of the municipal theatre and the tower of Piraeus from almost everywhere inside the space, primarily from the main entrance. Thus all separators used between offices were made of glass, to entertain the transparency and the great views to the outside.
Geometrically the space was separated into 3 zones with the use of a curve. Inside the arc of the curve were placed the common areas and the dining space. Outside of it a long walkway gives access to the separate offices, all placed at the perimeter of the building, to enjoy as much natural light and ventilation. This placement of functions minimized the distances and movements between the distinct parts of the space.
This separation of functions is accentuated with the use of different flooring materials. Ropes and metal bars emphasize the curve even more, and create another visual separation within the space, while allowing the movement throughout.
This strategy enhances the sense of team spirit that reflects the culture of the company. All the aforementioned approach of design principles and materials used, connect well with the headquarters of the company recently built in Corinth, Greece.
