When Efteling, one of the world’s most historic and beloved theme parks, wanted to commemorate their 60th anniversary, they sought a creative partner whose dedication to excellence paralleled their own and whose acclaimed design acumen could be expressed through cutting-edge technology to realize experiences that astonish audiences. They found that partner in WET and together embarked on a journey to create a spectacular show that honored the cherished fairytales intrinsic to Efteling’s history and heritage.
Envisioning a magical world, Efteling and WET created Aquanura, the largest performance fountain in Europe and one of the grandest in the world. It brings Efteling’s fictional stories and characters to life through the mesmerizing choreography of water, fire, mist and color. The feature debuts 9 new expressions with water and fire that were designed specifically for the feature along with WET’s vibrant color spectrum of LED lighting.
The fountain’s repertoire includes two choreographed symphonies of Dutch fairytale theme songs composed by a dedicated team of musicians. Posts of pivoting lights with speakers line the perimeter adding density and accentuation to the robust visual display. The lake is 15,000 square meters and holds WET’s grid-like, liquid labyrinth in its center, with platforms and varying vantage points for viewers on every side.
Each lush performance is a multi-sensory experience that pays homage to the park’s rich fairytale culture. And while Aquanura reconnects adults with their most cherished childhood memories, it also creates new memories for children that are sure to last a lifetime.
