The SM apartment is a remodeling and interior design project for an apartment of approximately 3000 sq. located on the beach of Santa Marta, Colombia. It is the home of a middle-aged couple who were looking to renovate their home to fit their lifestyle and personal style. The work consisted of completely replacing the finishes of the original apartment while maintaining the spatial distribution in order to generate a pleasant space that reflected the personality of its owners.
The apartment has a front view of the coastal landscape of Santa Marta, which played a lead role in the design of the space. The main goal was to create a sober atmosphere that would highlight the visuals of the environment. The selected natural finishes, such as wood, marble and microcement, give the apartment a classic tone that responds to the users' own style. Wood was used in panels to cover doors and walls, and wallpaper was placed in the main room and the social bathroom, giving it a warm touch that stands out with the cold tones of the stone. Microcement is present on many of the walls in the social area since its opaque appearance generates a great contrast with the works of art that are displayed in the space. Some of the contemporary works that stand out in the space were chosen by the team of architects so that they complement the interior design. The furniture used was imported from Europe, United States and Brazil; they are mainly classic pieces that generate cohesion among themselves despite coming from different places. To connect all these elements, high-quality lighting was key, so designer pieces were specially selected from the RWB and Flos catalogues. The selection of materials, art, lighting and furniture was thought completely based on the clients' intentions and responds in a welcoming way to the personality of its inhabitants.
