The existing villa is typical of
the real estate boom in Cyprus. The main goal was its upgrade and
the addition of some external floor space, essential for the Mediterranean
climate.
A new platform was constructed at the
main level of the house, projecting as much as possible over the cliff in order
to offer breathtaking views of the Pafos coastline and the sunset. The
structure was designed for lightness and a sail was installed above for shade.
All the balustrades are made of glass positioned externally to the structure. The
same for the view facing side of the pool terrace.
Sand blasting was used in order to
veil the structure. The platform was named Aphrodite's Lounge to complement
the Olympus major project name. The
platform name and the phrase "between sky and sea" in languages of
the Mediterranean sea and Europe were used for the composition of the cloud of
words, mirrored or “normal”, that can be viewed from every point and side of
the glass. Underlighting the glass with concealed LED strips added to the
floating feeling, at the same time providing indirect lighting to
the adjacent floor areas.
Perforated patterned metal screens
were used for the side fence. These took the form of independent fins to
enhance views with no sacrifice to privacy, fine-tuned on site to focus on
specific views. The same pattern was applied on the arc shaped metal gate that
partially reveals the forecourt of the villa.
