Situated on Balme Hill in the «La Duchère» area of Lyon, this project
encompasses 60 apartments divided over plot 7 and 8 of the development.
Having a southerly orientation, and due to its sloping topography of the
site, these apartments benefit from a panoramic view of the city.
Conceived to be spatially democratic, the resulting volume has been
carved away to introduce equal light and aspect to all the occupants.
The design also seeks, due to the densely vegetated beauty of the
exceptional geographic situation in La Duchère, to provide the maximum
area of exterior space; both as a shared garden, and private terrasses.
The two horse-shoe shaped volumes tectonically interact to shelter the
central terrassed garden from traffic noise, and provide access to the
green spaces at the heart of the block via a central staircase
accessible from Boulevard Balmont leading to a pedestrian walkway to the
North. This project offers a wide variety of apartments, differing in
both size and layout with either dual or opposing aspects, and all
inhabitants may access the communal gardens from the circulation core on
the second floor.
