The project is about a typical Athenian penthouse (retire), located within the dense urban fabric of Pagrati. The apartment, originally built in the 1970s with an area of 80 sq.m. is being revisited by the architects as a hybrid space that hosts the everyday life – on a personal and professional level – of a young psychologist.
Two main gestures define the compositional process: on the one hand, the effort to unify space through the creation of an open – plan living-dining-kitchen area in direct dialogue with the large relaxation area – on the other hand, the creation of a bench at the heart of the apartment, which organizes the transition from the day area to the work area and integrates the corridor into the main area.
The bench emphasizes the symmetry of the proposed layout, acts as a boundary of the shared movement space in relation to the kitchen and unifies the eastern and western parts of the space.
