Interior modifications and renovation of a property
in an early 1900s building.
The ground-floor apartment of a six-story building
is being completely renovated
with the aim of transforming a banal layout into an
open and interconnected space,
including through structural interventions
involving the building's dividing wall.
The open layout also improves the flow of light
into the rooms, which is often weak in
apartments on lower floors in the city center.
The single bathroom is treated as a separate
volume, highlighted by the use of color that
interacts with the treatment of the entrance and
the load-bearing wall, which houses
an internal opening the dining area and living
room.
To expand the sense of space, all the floors in the
living area, as well as the bathroom
and kitchen , are treated with the same material:
Carrara marble tiles.
The wooden flooring in the bedroom is retained,
but is treated and polished.
All plumbing and plumbing systems are being
redone.
The project involves only a few fixed furnishings.
The full-wall bookcase in the living room
was made by a craftsman using commercial
shelving units that were assembled
and treated with aniline.
