we need a new dishwasher!
It all began with a nice talk in the old kitchen of the apartment. Over the course of a wonderful dinner, prepared by the client, a head chef in a prestigious Viennese restaurant, plans were formed.
At first, there was the wish for a new kitchen, so we were asked if we would be interested to work with them on a design for a new custom made one. In the end, one lead to another, and the whole flat was refurbished ground up under our guidance.
Hand in hand with remodeling the basic layout, as well as all the surfaces, fittings and lightning a concept for furnishing everything with custom designed basic furniture elements as well as vintage pieces and other ready-mades was formed.
The center of the flat is the new living room. Formerly two separate rooms, the wall was removed, kitchen and living room are now joined together by the highly flexible new kitchen-island and bookshelf wall. Folding doors can be opened or closed on both sides of the main island, which also can be separated from the living room by a vertical sliding trapdoor, thus enabling the residents to create multiple scenarios.
A rail placed overhead has the dual function of housing a flexible magnetic track-light system as well as allowing a ladder to be attached for the higher bookshelves and cupboards.
Concrete wall coatings, French artisanal tiles in a few shades, oakwood, copper and black metal as well as different paint surfaces form a unified color scheme, complementing the deep black and green granite of the kitchen countertop.
