On a prominent hillside at the edge of Chiusa, with an open view of the Säben mountain and its monastery, the grounds of Hotel Camping Ansitz Gamp were expanded through a carefully designed architectural project. To meet growing guest expectations, a new hospitality concept was created that offers the atmosphere of a “second home” – a place of comfort, freedom, and relaxation.
The new ensemble consists of six compact, two-storey chalets set on stilts and integrated into the steep, wooded northwest slope. Terraced along the natural topography and accessed discreetly from the rear, they ensure a high degree of privacy and tranquillity. Built in sustainable prefabricated timber construction and following a classic gabled form, the chalets feature large windows and framed loggias that open toward the landscape, offering uninterrupted views of Säben Monastery and the surrounding cultural scenery.
Durable, regional materials define the architecture: brushed, sun-weathered larch wood, natural stone, and dark-coated metal give the buildings a calm, refined appearance. A continuous timber envelope extends from façades to roofs, creating a harmonious overall expression. Timber-framed windows and slender metal railings blend naturally into the environment while relating to the existing structures on the estate.
The outdoor spaces around the chalets were carefully shaped, planted, and landscaped with local vegetation. Natural-stone walls, echoing those already on site, frame the exterior areas and mediate between the new buildings and the adjacent agricultural land.
