The project “another flick in the wall” was part of a bigger in process residential building located in a developing area named ”Elahieh” in Mashhad. The residential complex is located across a newly laid boulevard so the senior architect and the client allocated and area of the infrastructure of the residential units to the use of a coffee shop and also a part of the yard of the residential complex serving to the shop to interact with the urban area and the adjacent passage. Therefore, as the purpose of the present project and the main design problem, in the first phase, the implementation of a different wall to separate the yard and the urban area defined.
The main approach toward the design problem to achieve an appropriate answer compared to the casual types of the walls, was to pay attention to the context and the facilities and the forces so that the answer to the problem can be deduced from the heart. Thus, the wall ought to perform beyond a simple extrusion and presents itself as a bed for the care and the growth of the weak sapling which is located at the space of thirty centimeters, prone to the damage of the construction workshop. Next, due to the similarity of the concept of growth with soil material and in emphasizing the contextual approach, the abundance of excavated soil on the site and the architects' expertise, rammed earth technic was proposed.
The proximity of these two (the wall and the sapling) and the mutual affection tested in different options, and finally a shadow and a trace of the sapling engraved on the wall, so that the wall, with a pure revelation of material (soil), creates a sense of beauty. All as well as being different, a protector, and a bed for shrub growth.
In the second phase in the continuation of the project implementation stages, suggestions for filling the effective role of the wall as a different type of separator (not just a normal wall) and also with the formal and spacial coordination were proposed.
