Located on Angove Street, North Perth, in-front of Future Shelter this micro size public space project was commissioned as part of the the City of Vincent Parklet program. The Parklet was constructed from the large volume of salvaged timber off-cuts generated from our Sorrento Quay Boardwalk Performance Deck project. The concept reflects our strong commitment to sustainability as well as our desire to generate unique, engaging outcomes contributing to our public realm. These off-cuts would otherwise be placed in landfill but have significant re-usable value. The timber is arranged in the stacked form reflecting its condition when first viewed on the Performance Deck construction site. The use of salvaged timber off-cuts from another project also provides an embedded layering of ideas and meaning. Folded aluminium planters containing native plants are interspersed throughout the Parklet to create an intimate usable space encouraging people interact with it. Constructed by Buckingham Re-Development as a transportable module [one car bay in size] in a workshop, lifted and transported to site, the chosen methodology limited the requirement for on-site construction and disruption.
