We replaced an existing house with a new house, more in keeping with the high Shingle Style of the Pier. The swooping roof, multiple dormers and porches all add to the distinctive shape and character of the shingle style. Heavy trim details and flairs with multi-paned windows are in character with the late 1800’s and help the house fit into the district. The beautiful interiors with their gorgeous interior trim detail and coffered ceilings, paneling, tile work, hardwood floors and borders, shelves, and appropriate lighting all add to the experience of stepping back in time when you enter the house.
Despite looking back at the 19th century, the house is very modern and has a large eat-in kitchen and generous rooms for the family to gather as well as comfortable bedrooms with balconies overlooking Narragansett Bay.
Entering the home from the street, the guest passes under the arch of the front porch to the massive front door. This opens into a series of arches leading down the front hall to views or the garden glimpsed through French doors opening onto the back porch. Arched openings lead off the front hall to the other main rooms of the first floor.
Every room has special details, such as the lighted tray ceiling in the Dining Room, the eyebrow dormer in the bedroom under the swooping roof, and the Master Bedroom with its “sleeping porch”.
On the attic floor a roof top dormer and balcony provide sweeping views up and down the Bay. A beautiful garden completes this idyllic home.
