Anchoret 1.0. is JANG’s first project realized for the Anchoret brand. The wood that we used as a main display shelf in the space was sourced from a demolished Chinese building. Old, cleaned wooden log was later fire-treated in order to achieve the right color. The wood was also enforced with raw black steel fittings and slightly lifted above the floor. A white glow of light was visible in narrow crack between the floor and log, creating an impression that it was suspended in the air.
This little showroom designed by JANG fits perfectly to the direction which ANCHORET brand believes in when it comes to their shops. According to the creators of the brand, the word “Anchoret” represents the will to live in separation from society, in distance physically and spiritually. The shop is supposed to be exactly this kind of place; unique, isolated, mysterious and hidden in the corners of dense traditional Beijing architecture. While inside, one can have an impression of being in a gallery space or a sacred place. Visiting Anchoret is a true delight for senses, when one can admire handmade clothes, shoes, and accessories, made by internationally-acclaimed designers.
