Times are changing and so is our understanding and interpretation of our traditions. As any city slowly transforms into a heady mix of local traditions and global influx, there is an increasing need for forming urban and individual identities by reinterpreting heritage.
Catering to the highly progressive and tech savvy youth of Bangalore, Anand Sweets is a boutique sweet shop that provides its customers with an international retail experience. Being a premium store, the design aims at pampering patrons with unparalleled visual and gourmet experiences through an innovative fusion of authentic heritage with the Avant Garde.
Anand Sweets, inspired by the taste of royal India, aims at taking people on a culinary journey of the famous delicacies from across India. The menu being an extensive mix of prevalent regional dishes and hybrid experimental takes on popular dishes, it caters to a wide range of taste buds. The space nimbly translates this gastronomic journey into a sleek, young, vibrant and luxurious ambience.
Designed in parity to the booming café culture in the city, Anand Sweets provides with an unmatched experience of the contemporary Indian heritage through an ingenious play of colors, patterns and textures. The idea has been to deconstruct the habitual retail experience of Indian delicacies and transpose it into cutting edge planning, technology and construction methodology to create a humble yet intricately planned environment.
The desire to create a retail space that blurs the boundaries between traditional luxury and a modern sophistication led to a highly distinct material choice of locally sourced wood and veneers along with patterned Italian marble tiles and sleek metal fixtures.
The black and white chequered floor, in exquisite Calacatta Lapatto, is an adaptation of the flooring from the forts and palaces of India. These tiles partly continue onto the wall behind the service counter as cladding, tying the design together to highlight the retro extravagance while maintaining a visual harmony. The custom-made titanium coated steel fixtures along with a minimal counter in Statuario further emphasize on the simple yet timeless Indian splendor. This along with an ultra-modern display, colorful furniture and bold light fixtures integrate the whole space into a mass of highly chic and suave sensory experience.
Aimed at reimagining heritage and traditional Indian culinary retail store design to put them at par with the international standards, Anand Sweets finds a perfect balance between the old and the new to create a rich new precedent in the contemporary luxury.
