In a collaboration with LaFarge, a French concrete company, and their subsidiary Ductal, Amphorea was a research project that experimented with new high-performance fiber-reinforced concrete with exceptional mechanical performance (200 MPa compression and 40 MPa tension). The development of the system and forms took advantage of the performance characteristics of this advanced material. A solid parametric computer model using CATIA, CNC fabricated rigid formwork and urethane inner reusable molds were used to cast repetitive Ductal elements to build three installations of various shapes, configurations and performance characteristics.
